A sign of the times.

So, why “It’s Only Temporary”? Well, this life-saving advice came from my dear friend, Amy, when I was really struggling through my divorce. She said, “Get a post-it note, write “It’s Only Temporary” on it, stick it on your laptop, and say it to yourself everyday – like a mantra. Eventually you will find yourself saying it less, and less …and one day you’ll stop noticing it’s even there.” She was right. And although it’s such a simple, obvious thing - it really did help.

This large, fictitious sign is easily my favorite work in this series. You might detect that the building and scaffolding is a simplified version of my Hotel Roosevelt painting. One day I’d like to collaborate with a steel worker and neon fabricator to recreate it. And it would serve as a reminder to our trans brothers and sisters that the hate they are facing today will one day be gone. But upon which building should it stand? Who would fund such an ambitious project? DM me with your suggestions.
